On Friday, community members gathered at McMillen Pavillion at Franke Park to celebrate World Refugee Day. With Solidarity as a theme, the event recognized the resilience, perseverance and contributions of immigrant and refugee families who call Allen County home. The St. Joseph Community Health Foundation was proud to sponsor the event, and Foundation CEO Matt Smith was honored to serve as emcee.

Catholic Social Teaching calls us to recognize the dignity of every person, stand in solidarity with the vulnerable, and welcome the stranger as our neighbor. These principles are at the core of the Foundation's mission to improve the health and well-being of immigrants and refugees in Allen County, and Friday's celebration was a meaningful reflection of those shared values.

The Foundation congratulates Amani Family Services, Catholic Charities, International House, in planning and executing such a thought-provoking and enjoyable event. Thank you to all community partners whose work makes Fort Wayne a more welcoming and healthier community for everyone.

St. Joe Foundation's Summer Intern, Sofia Vazquez, attended orientation for the 2026 the Women's Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne Intern program recently. St. Joe's CEO, Matt Smith, was also able to join the meeting, and they both learned about the valuable workshops, discussions, mentorship, and career guidance that interns will take part in the next eight weeks. The St. Joe Foundation appreciates the opportunity for Sofia and all the program participants!

St. Joseph Community Health Foundation Staff supported two of our partner organizations this past weekend. CEO Matt Smith and his wife Kari, along with new-elected Community Member Medina Habic, celebrated Amani Family' Services 20th Anniversary at the Pearl. Mark Burkholder, Projects & Multimedia Manager, and his wife Kelli, brought back the 80's at CTN's Dine 4 Rides at the Mirro Center. Both organizations provide vital services in our community and SJCHF is proud to partner with them.
