Sharper than a tac!

Long post... This past Friday was senior awards night. I left my college senior with a kiss and congratulations to hit the highway to make it to my high school senior with about 15 minutes to spare.

JaKaj will be graduating 12th in his class with a 4.31 GPA and 40 college credits. This awards night, he received an award for completion in Vincennes early college. Kaj received medals for being a distinguished scholar and for receiving technical honors for his media internship with FWCS. He received a medal and gold tassel, cords for completing with high honors. He was awarded the Martone creative writing award/plaque and the Excellence in Theater award. Finally, he was blessed to receive an alumni scholarship from Northside and the Bidenwig Scholarship from FWCS! You can tell from his face in the video and my voice that none of this was expected.
JaKaj came to Northside reluctantly and did his thing. I do not regret making this choice for him, and he is grateful that I did. Northside took care of my son. Being the oldest twin, in which one requires more attention, put him in a particular position where he felt like a help-mate and not an individual. He has absolutely come into his own.

Today, JaKaylah will officially be a college graduate with a bachelor's degree in Linguistics and Anthropology and minors in Spanish and African American/African Diaspora Studies. These four years flew by. I am immensely proud of her. With her degree, she broke a cycle on both sides of her family. She is a first-generation college graduate. She is her own history maker. She has had many more ups than downs, but certainly has been getting hit with multiple nos these last couple of months. Everyone who sent notes to put in her book... if you get to the end of all these pictures and videos, you will see just how much they mean to her. As hard as she has worked, she has been getting no after no. She was so down she couldn't see what she has accomplished. She doesn't cry... reading those letters and notes, she cried, and I cried with her. She needed that so badly that, though this next step is not what she desired, she is taking it knowing that she is loved and supported. Thank you all. That book with your notes is her favorite gift. I couldn't be there to watch the large graduation, but best believe I'll be streaming from home. One of me means splitting my time, and my high school senior, JaKaj, had his final award ceremony last night and prom today.
