Congratulations to our own Fort Wayne firefighters Tim Clay and Trapper Mize on graduating from the Public Safety Scuba Instructor (PSSI) course presented by Dive Rescue International in Indianapolis last week.
This demanding five-day program certifies students to train future public safety divers. Their achievement not only reflects their dedication to professional development, but it also strengthens our Water Rescue Team by expanding our ability to train the next generation of FWFD rescue divers right here at home.
Great work, Tim and Trapper!

As part of the Fort Wayne Fire Department's ongoing Community Risk Reduction efforts, thanks to federal grants supplying residential alarms, we conduct Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Installation Blitzes throughout our community to help ensure residents have working alarms and a plan to stay safe.

Due to recent inclement weather, we were forced to postpone our scheduled Smoke Alarm Blitz in the 46802 area. For those residents who were previously notified of the even, you can expect our crews to return on Monday, June 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the rescheduled installation effort.

For residents outside of the scheduled installation area, a reminder that if you own your home, reside within the City of Fort Wayne, or live within the Fort Wayne Fire Department's response area and are in need of a smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm, you may request one at no cost by visiting fortwaynefiredepartment.org and completing the online request form.

Working smoke alarms save lives, and we appreciate the community's support as we continue these important life-safety initiatives. Stay Safe Fort Wayne!

A week ago today, on one of the hottest and most humid days so far in 2026, Fort Wayne Fire Department crews responded to and worked a a 704 structure fire Northwest of downtown.

We would like to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of the firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and command staff who operated in extremely demanding conditions to protect lives and property. Their commitment to serving our community remains unwavering, regardless of the weather or circumstances.

As temperatures continue to rise this summer, we encourage everyone to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on family members, neighbors, and those who may be vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

Fort Wayne native Adam Bowser #1034 brings service, leadership, and a great sense of humor to . A North Side High School graduate and Army Combat Medic, Adam also earned a marketing degree from Indiana Wesleyan University before building a career in business leadership and operations.
Adam says his decision to join FWFD goes back to watching firefighters respond to a neighbor’s house fire when he was a teenager. The courage and selflessness he witnessed that day stayed with him and inspired his own commitment to serving the people of Fort Wayne, something he says is made even better by the city’s unmatched Midwest hospitality.
Some of Adam’s favorite academy memories were the live burns at Dwenger Ave. and the Friday night dinners shared with classmates after long training days. Outside of the firehouse, he enjoys fishing, camping, bonfires, mowing grass, and running his local business, Executive Removal. At the station, he and the crew are “working on their summer beach bodies,” so his go-to meals are low-carb and high-protein.
A fan of The Old Man and the Sea and Slaughterhouse-Five, Adam also says he’d love to meet 2 Chainz or Willie Nelson someday. Guided by the class phrase, “There’s a lot of work to be done,” his goal is to become a dependable, well-rounded firefighter who can be an asset to both his crew and the Fort Wayne community.

The next generation of cardiac monitoring is officially hitting the streets as our new Stryker Lifepak 35 monitors replace the trusted Lifepak 15s that have served our crews and community for many years.

These new monitors provide enhanced technology, improved patient care capabilities, and help ensure our firefighters and paramedics have the tools they need to deliver the highest level of service.

A special thank you to everyone involved in planning, programming, installing, testing, and deploying these devices. This was a monumental undertaking, and your hard work and dedication helped make this transition a success.

The LP35s are now in service and ready to help us continue providing exceptional care to our community. 🚒🚑

Today, the Fort Wayne Fire Department participated in a school safety exercise at Northrop High School alongside our public safety and education partners.

Training exercises like this provide an opportunity to evaluate response procedures, strengthen interagency coordination, and reinforce the skills needed to respond effectively during critical incidents.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was the first fire department in the region to adopt the Rescue Task Force (RTF) model and has successfully deployed this capability during real-world incidents. We are proud to have District Chief Mark Litwinko, a nationally recognized Rescue Task Force instructor and subject matter expert, helping lead and advance this important work both within our department and across the country.

Today’s exercise reflects our continued commitment to preparedness, collaboration, and ensuring our personnel are ready to respond when our community needs us most.
