Fort Wayne Metals
We’re a leading manufacturer of wire-based products that our customers use in medical devices.
At Fort Wayne Metals, we never lose sight of the fact that the wire we draw will end up in medical devices used to save lives. It's this philosophy that has allowed us to grow from a small wire mill in 1970 to a leading manufacturer of customized precision wire and components used in our customers' medical and non-medical products around the world. Whether you're looking for round, flat or shaped

Mental Health Awareness Month meant opportunities for our people to focus on their well-being. From wellness walks, chair massages, and on-site counseling to a visit from Jared the Comfort Dog, a health fair, a mindfulness meditation, and more, our employees were able to relax, recharge, and reinvigorate.
Behind every material produced, process performed, and customer relationship built, our people are committed to doing things the right way. Thank you to our employees for the dedication they bring every day, creating the peace of mind our customers depend on.

We got all warm fuzzies this week thanks to a visit from Jared the Comfort Dog. Thank you to Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry for the fluffy affection.
It’s only fitting that Ed Mild would find his way back to Nitinol after meeting the man who discovered the shape memory alloy.
Ed, a Senior Metallurgist at Fort Wayne Metals, may be the only person still working in the materials industry with direct ties to William Buehler, who discovered Nitinol in 1958. 🤯
With considerable technical expertise around alloy melting and refinement, Ed has helped grow both the scale and quality of our Nitinol production, most recently culminating in the creation of Altus™ Nitinol. His leadership has enabled Fort Wayne Metals to control our Nitinol supply chain, from melt to finished material. 🔥
Today, he is focused on passing that knowledge forward to the next generation of Nitinol innovators, including Dr. Jeremy Schaffer and Dr. Kyle Fezi. 🧠
As Ed puts it: “No one comes to work with Nitinol and is bored. The joy is in tackling those challenges as a team and continuously improving the quality of our products.” 🚀
Big things happening right here at home 🚀
When Dr. Kyle Fezi, Senior Materials Engineer at Fort Wayne Metals, teamed up with students at Indiana Tech, it turned into something special. Together, they pushed the boundaries of what’s possible with next-generation Nitinol using 3D metal printing.
Through hands-on experimentation, problem-solving, and plenty of iteration, students successfully produced Nitinol samples for real testing, contributing meaningful insights to future applications.
Even better? They gained real-world experience every step of the way, from design and builds to post-processing and machining.
This is what local collaboration looks like: curious minds, shared expertise, and innovation moving forward together. 💡
A hometown collaboration powering Nitinol innovation.
When Dr. Kyle Fezi, Senior Materials Engineer and member of the Indiana Tech Engineering Department Industrial Advisory Board, set out to explore next-generation Nitinol through 3D metal printing, he partnered with Indiana Tech.
Through experimentation and iterative learning, students successfully produced Nitinol samples for evaluation and testing, contributing valuable insights to ongoing studies and future applications.
Students benefited as well, gaining hands-on experience in the complete metal printing workflow, from design and build ex*****on to post-processing and machining.
It’s a perfect example of how local partnerships accelerate learning and advance the development of high-performance materials.

Well-being took the spotlight at our recent Health Fair. Our people connected one-on-one with experts and explored resources to support their financial, mental, and physical health. More than just information, the event gave people real ways to take action on improving their overall well-being.
Sustainability doesn’t always show up in big moments. More often, it’s built quietly over time, in stages, and in ways that reflect our commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
At Fort Wayne Metals, that means making smarter choices every day:
☀️ Investing in solar energy
💡 Transitioning to LED lighting
♻️ Recycling materials
🌱 Composting efforts
And now, we’re taking it further by closely evaluating energy use across our facilities to reduce consumption and operate more efficiently. Step by step, we're building sustainability for a greener future.
Going to school while working full-time isn’t easy, but the right support makes a big difference.
Through our Achieve Your Degree (AYD) partnership with Fort Wayne Metals, employees earn certifications and degrees that can help them advance in the workforce.
Is your employer an AYD partner? If so, you may qualify for deferred tuition, reimbursement, extra support, and more. Check it out at IvyTech.edu/ayd
