Omar Cooper Jr. has officially declared for the NFL Draft, taking the next step after a standout college career โ and doing so with deep ties to Fort Wayne.
Cooperโs roots trace directly back to Northeast Indiana. Both of his parents are South Side High School alumni. His mother, former Vnemina Reese, starred on the basketball court before going on to play at Michigan State. His father was a dual-sport athlete at South Side, competing in both football and basketball.
On our postseason episode of the Around the Fort podcast, we sat down with Bishop Luers standout Jarron Taylor.
He broke down what it was like lining up against Knox high school star Myles McLaughlin, who came within 363 yards of breaking Derrick Henryโs national high school career rushing record (12,124 yards) during the 2025 post season.

We had the opportunity to cover Indiana Football from the sidelines this season. GameNight was at several games, including Illinois, at Iowa, MSU, at Purdue.
Congrats to them on winning the national championship โ well deserved.

The future is already being noticed as 8th-grader Jaydin Haller earns a Kent State offer ahead of his move to Northrop High School.
Kent State continues to make a strong push in Northeast Indiana, extending offers to Omarion Waites (North Side), Javontae Eldridge (Wayne), Camden Day (Northrop), Levi Portee (Northrop) and Ifeanyi Emedobi (Northrop).
Recruitment momentum keeps building across the region โ Waites adds a Division I full-ride offer from Eastern Michigan, while Emedobi continues his rise with Division I offers from Cincinnati and Kansas following strong visits.
