Recent read: Secrets of the Octopus by Sy Montgomery

You know I’m over here reading all the octopus books. I enjoyed Montgomery’s other book, The Soul of an Octopus, so I knew I’d love this. It’s intended to be a companion to the Disney+ documentary.

Easy to read, but nothing really new if you’ve read and seen all the other octopus things. The pictures are especially lovely.

I have another octopus-themed book I’m reading! Any guesses on which one?

Recent read: Babel by R.F. Kuang

This has been on my TBR for a while along with Kuang’s other books. It’s well-written and smart, but I didn’t love the characters and there wasn’t enough magic in it for me. However, it’s an interesting take on colonization.

Yellowface and The Poppy Wars come highly recommended, so maybe I’ll enjoy those more. Have you read her books? Let me know what you think!

Recent read: The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

This was a school read a year or so ago for Sofs and it was on my for quite a while. I decided to read it on the train ride to and from NYC. The demon Screwtape instructs his demon nephew Wormwood on how to capture souls. It’s an interesting and entertaining read on spiritual warfare.

Recent read: RuriDragon by Masaoki Shindo

I picked this up at Awesome Con earlier this year from the Kinokinuya Bookstore booth. Ruri wakes up one day to find horns on her head and learns that her father is actually a dragon. The art is cute and the concept is interesting.

Recent read: Alpi the Soul Sender by Rona

I finished volumes 1-4 of this manga. It was interesting. I think it might be one of those slow build type of stories. I’d wouldn’t mind reading the rest of the series to see if things pick up.

Recent read: Spy x Family vol 14 by Tatsuya Endo

If you know me, you know I love both the manga and anime Spy x Family. I can’t wait for the next season to start this fall. In this volume of the manga, we get an Eden Academy dance social and some lore on Henry Henderson, the elegant history teacher and housemaster of Cecile Hall.

Our Book Nook raffle winner Gabby sent me pictures of her completed project. Doesn’t it look amazing?! I love how it turned out, and I really like the way the little path seems to go on to other adventures. I might have to get one!

Recent read: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan.

Is anyone else going to see Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro on The Court of the Dead tour?!

The recommended this book to me. She said The Heroes of Olympus is the series to read after the …& the Olympians series. She’s actually a big fan of the Nico di Angelo character and wants me to read his series, but said I have to read these other two series first. Ok! I love that she’s a huge fan of these books and I really enjoy them as well.

So far, I think my bias is Thalia, but I’m not 100%.
