π§ββοΈβ¨ The Downtown Fort Smith Witches Ride is more than just a spooky celebration β itβs a way to give back to our incredible community! This year, proceeds benefit four local women-led non-profits that are making a difference in Fort Smith. Letβs meet them:
1. The Bonneville House
This stunning Victorian home, built in 1880, is a beacon of Fort Smith history and elegance. Originally the home of Judge Benjamin Bonneville, itβs now a venue for weddings, community events, and private gatherings. The Bonneville House Foundation works to preserve its legacy and beauty, ensuring it remains a cherished part of Fort Smithβs cultural fabric.
2. The Clayton House
Built in 1882, The Clayton House is a beautifully restored Victorian-era mansion that was once home to U.S. Attorney William Henry Harrison Clayton. Now a museum, it offers a glimpse into life in the 19th century while hosting educational tours, events, and history programs. The Clayton House preservation efforts keep the past alive, inspiring future generations.
3. The Fort Smith Museum of History
Established in 1910, this museum preserves and showcases the rich history of Fort Smith and the surrounding area. With exhibits ranging from Native American artifacts to stories of the Wild West, the museum educates visitors of all ages on the important role Fort Smith played in shaping the American frontier. Its mission is to ensure the past is never forgotten.
4. The Junior League of Fort Smith
Since 1936, The Junior League of Fort Smith has been empowering women through volunteerism and community leadership. Focused on improving lives through programs like Dignity for All and Done in a Day, the Junior League helps meet the needs of vulnerable families and individuals in the River Valley. Their members are passionate about making a meaningful impact.
