Six of our seasonal state historic sites are opening today! First Territorial Capitol, Grinter Place, Pawnee Indian Museum, Red Rocks, Mine Creek Civil War Battlefield, and Cottonwood Ranch are ready to welcome visitors. First Territorial Capitol State Historic Site will be opening for the season this Saturday, May 29! It will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p .m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. In 1901 the Kansas Legislature requested that Congress allow the building to be preserved by the state. However, the state legislature did not set aside money for maintenance and repairs until 1927.
