I was deeply influenced by my last mentor the late, great pianist Earl Wild. I had the fantastic opportunity to work with him through a program that generously sponsored my studies via his record company, Ivory Classics. I will never forget the lessons I had with him and how freely he shared his artistry and practical wisdom with me.
He requested to hear my entire Liszt repertoire, and he had so much insight to offer. I recall with humor playing Liszt’s B minor Piano Sonata for him—after a single note, he exclaimed, “Oh God, no!” He much preferred a very dry and short opening to the long, orchestral pizzicato style.
After these incredible sessions, I was treated to dinner, and the conversations were truly unforgettable—stories about legendary figures and contemporary pianists, all told with his inimitable charm and devastating wit.
The last thing he told me before I left was, “Please be yourself and don’t let those academic bastards change you.” What he meant was that he wanted me to continue in the lineage of pianist-composers and arrangers, writing my own transcriptions and staying true to the music I loved. I was very lucky, and I am very grateful. Thank you, Mr. Wild.

Happy New Year, friends!
As we step into this new chapter, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the people, places, and moments that filled 2025. Being a musician isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. I often think back to that college student who decided to pursue music no matter the cost, and I’m so grateful I made that leap.
To all the mentors and supporters who believed in me: thank you. Your encouragement profoundly shaped my life.
I hope to be that same encouraging voice for the younger generation—to remind you that following your dreams is everything. The joy I’ve found in music is something I wish for everyone brave enough to chase what sets their soul on fire.
Here’s to a year of beautiful music and the courage to keep creating. 🎶

Thrilled to share that three of my students – one current, two former – have been named National YoungArts Winners. This is one of the most prestigious honors a young musician can achieve in the US.
So proud of their talent, hard work, and dedication. 🎹

This past weekend in Florida…I had an unforgettable trip to Fort Myers performing on the Nisita Concert Series and giving a master class at the Bower school of Music and the Arts at FGCU. It’s heartwarming to see the enthusiasm in a nearly sold out concert hall and then to hear some incredible talents on the master class. I was stunned by the level of young pianists working with their master teacher, Dr, Michael Baron. Thank you for a truly wonderful memory in beautiful warm Florida!

I always felt that being from New Orleans helped understand this one…
