Scripture – Matthew 18:26-27
26 “So the slave fell on his knees before him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 27 And out of pity for him, the lord of that slave released him and forgave him the debt.”
Prayer Focus: The slave begs for mercy, and immediately the lord releases him and forgives his debt. This tells us that the lord was prepared to be merciful. He did not have to think it over; he was ready and waiting to give mercy as soon as this servant showed humility and penitence. This tells us God has a gracious stance towards those who humble themselves and acknowledge their sin. Pray this week as we explore this text that we too might be humble when we do or say what is wrong.

Scripture – Matthew 18:24-25 - 24 “When he began the reckoning, one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him, 25 and, as he could not pay, the lord ordered him to be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions and payment to be made.”
Prayer Focus: The slave owed great debt. When he could not pay, the lord ordered that he and his family, and all that he owned be sold to pay the debt. This may seem harsh to the reader, but scholars argue that this harsh reality allows this slave to finally understand the gravity of the debt he was in. It is as if the threat of this punishment was a mirror that was held up to him so he could finally see his mistakes clearly. Pray today that as you might see your mistakes clearly and understand the gravity of how others might be affected.

Scripture – Matthew 18:23 – “For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves.”
Prayer Focus: Jesus is speaking to the disciples here. In the verses before this section, Peter has just asked how often one must forgive someone who has sinned against him. Essentially Peter has asked a question we all wonder at some point and that is, “when can we stop forgiving people that repeatedly offend us?” Jesus responds by telling this parable. Pray for an open mind, that we might hear what Jesus is teaching us as we explore this parable together this week.

Scripture - Matthew 13:45-56
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; 46 on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Prayer Focus: In a similar way, the kingdom is now like the merchant in search of fine pearls. The merchant who sells all that he has is compared to the kingdom. So yesterday, the kingdom is like something worth selling everything for. Today the kingdom is like the one who goes all in to be a part of the kingdom. Which seems more appealing to you today? Pray that you might be all in!

Scripture - Matthew 13:44
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and reburied; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Prayer Focus: We reach this week’s parables and the first is a treasure hidden in a field. This is the preaching text for Sunday and reminds us that the kingdom is of such value that when discovered, it is worth selling all that we have so that we might obtain it. It is a little strange in that the man finds the treasure and does not just take it. He returns the treasure and sells everything to buy the field where the treasure is hidden. What do you make of that puzzle? Pray for commitment to be all in with the kingdom today.

This past week, our 5th and 6th graders attended Mission Camp @ VBS. They played games and had Bible study each morning. Then, they visited some of our community partners to serve in a variety of ways. A few places they went were: Fort Mill Church of God Food Pantry to sort and bag food, Habitat for humanity to build bird houses that are sold to raise money for Habitat, Defend the Fatherless to make cookie dough for their freezer ministry and Bethel Men’s’ Shelter to clean out a trailer of bedding used at their overflow shelters. They also made a meal for Children’s Attention Home and placemats for Renew. Thank you to all of our leaders who served alongside the kids.

Scripture - Psalm 119:126
126 It is time for the Lord to act,
for your law has been broken.
Prayer Focus: One of the functions of the law is to indicate when wrongdoing has happened. It is time for the Lord to act. It is time for intervention. Pray that God might come down and that the kingdom might come, the Lord’s will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
