Does it hurt?? I get this question often; you think needle through the skin=pain, HOWEVER it is actually a pretty painless procedure. The needles are so thin, the "prick" is much less than that of the common flu shot needle. Most people don't even feel it. When performing trigger point needling, you might feel an achy feeling after the needle is in but it resolves quickly. How does Dry Needling work?? Let me tell you. We use a SMALL monofilament needle which, when it enters the skin, starts a cascade of events. First thing, it stretches the tissue that it is inserted into (most of the time muscle) so it actually stretches inside the muscle--the place you cannot reach through regular stretch or massage. Then it creates a tiny lesion and our extremely smart body then goes to work.
