Spotted: CGRS' own Matt Newcomb sharing insights at RemFest.
Check out this RemFest interview featuring Matt Newcomb, CHMM, CO-REP, Project Manager / Geologist and Environmental Field Operations Manager at CGRS, from this year's event in Albuquerque.
One of the things we appreciate about events like RemFest is the opportunity to connect with peers across the environmental and geoscience industries to share ideas, learn from each other, and tackle challenges from different perspectives.
At CGRS, that collaborative approach is at the heart of what we do, whether we're supporting environmental investigations and remediation projects, providing environmental consulting services, or responding when emergency situations require immediate action.
Take a minute to hear Matt's thoughts from the event:

After a UDC failed secondary containment testing at a site in Denver, our Repairs & Upgrades team got to work. To access the fittings that needed replacement, they first exposed the side of the UDC by removing a section of the island form and cutting an access window. Once the fittings were replaced, the system passed secondary containment testing, and the island form and concrete were restored.
Have questions about UDC repairs or secondary containment testing? We'd be happy to talk.

Fuel System Decommissioning & Site Restoration
We recently completed work at a former fueling station on Holly Street, which included the removal of four underground storage tanks, fuel dispensers, product piping, and site signage.
The project involved removing three 10,000-gallon steel tanks and one 8,000-gallon fiberglass tank that previously stored gasoline and E-85 fuel. Following tank removal, the site was restored with approximately 3,070 square feet of new concrete.
This project supports the continued management and redevelopment of former fuel facility properties through the removal of underground infrastructure and site restoration.
If you are planning a fuel system closure, property redevelopment, or need assistance with underground storage tank removal, CGRS can help. Contact us to learn more.

🏥At a local hospital in California, CGRS recently completed a critical repair of the facility’s underground storage tank (UST) system supporting its emergency generators.
Understanding the importance of uninterrupted power in a healthcare environment, we first coordinated the installation of a temporary aboveground storage tank (AST) system to ensure continuous fuel supply throughout the project.
From there, our team marked the excavation area through DigAlert/USA and secured the required dig ticket. We also performed a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey to identify any unmarked private utilities prior to excavation.
Our scope of work included:
• Replacement of a failing tank sump
• Replacement of associated piping and containment components
• Installation of a new, code-compliant, liquid-tight double-wall sump
• Full system testing, including Enhanced Leak Detection (ELD)
• Verification of system integrity, continuity, and regulatory compliance
Once repairs and testing were completed, we safely transitioned the system back to the UST and removed the temporary AST setup—without disruption to hospital operations.
This project was a great example of the importance of planning, compliance, and precision when working on mission-critical infrastructure. If you have concerns about your UST system integrity or compliance, feel free to reach out.
