I don't know a lot, but I know I'm Irish/English enough that I don't have the emotional capacity to process what happened yesterday. I thought I was going to make a handful of bags of meat to help some people get through a rough patch. It would be a drop in the bucket, but it was a little something I could do. Instead, as of the time I'm writing this, you ended up raising $23,000 and insured that I'll be able to keep doing this for a lot longer and help a lot more people. So, again, and for the rest of my life, thank you for helping me help someone else.
I have a ridiculous amount of conflicting feeling about what we did yesterday, about 3. (Again...Irish/English) and if you want to read about my perspective and how this all happened our November newsletter, Meat Mail, will be out early next week, and I'll post it up on the website too.
Yesterday we handed out something like 1000 lbs. of meat for people losing their SNAP benefits or furloughed from their federal jobs. Today we're going to do that again. We're going to try anyway. I didn't expect anywhere near this level of response and we are still not completely prepared for it. We're going to do our best and I'll get this more organized for next week.
If/when the government re-opens and SNAP is funded we will continue to provide these packages until the money runs out. I would like to keep helping people because I'm sure they need to catch up on other bills they may have ignored to keep food on their table.
So thank you! I could not do anything like this without your support and the love of this community.
