When both of you are suddenly out of work/paycheck... we need to reduce numbers quickly. We have registered breeding quality, polled, and pet quality. We have a few more than pictured but starting here....

This is a difficult one, but it's time the last of our litter find a herd of his own to guard. Unfortunately the world around us is forcing more change on the farm and Shaw is simply out of a job. He is almost a year old and has been with our buck (who is also looking for a job).

In late 2016, a New World screwworm outbreak occurred in Florida’s Key deer, an endangered species. While the response, including treatment of affected deer and deployment of sterile flies, was relatively rapid (6 months to eradicate the pest), 14% of the key deer population was lost. Because this outbreak occurred outside of fawning season, over 90% of the mortalities were bucks with wounds from fighting during the rut. In other words, the 14% population loss came from a loss of over 40% of the bucks; an outbreak at a different time of year or with a slower or multi-year response time would have been more devastating on Key deer populations.

It is difficult to forecast if the current movement of screwworms through Mexico will reach the U.S. border. But we do know that the eradication of this pest in the U.S. afforded 50 plus years of deer population restoration efforts and that re-emergence of the screwworm will result in a rapid reversal of deer numbers. As pressure from screwworms mounts in Central America and Mexico, it is imperative that Texas and the U.S. are prepared to hold the line, with capacity to respond prescriptively and rapidly to ensure a healthy future for our valuable wildlife resources.

(This is the third post in a three part series on New World screwworm.)

TiltedQRanch Chesapeake Bay had her quads on 4/16. Three girls and a boy! So far all look to be polled but we need a little more time to tell for sure. All but one girl have blue eyes.

Email us if you are interested in a doe, buck, or wether kid. Taylor Swift, first freshening yearling, is also available with her wether boys.

We were surprised to come home yesterday to two little boys in the barn! We had a very sneaky buck this year so our timing is a little off. Thankfully Taylor Swift handled it like a champ as a first time mom.
Please message if you are interested in this trio.

Chick season is here! This broody olive egger hen is raising 16 chicks that we had to wait in line for 2 hours for!! Last year she hatched out her own chicks and we have some beautiful olive egger hens as a result!

You know its cold when the big dogs seek shelter. Shaw (the puppy that is still here) is not convinced -6 calls for shelter. The male turkey is the only animal that agrees with Shaw.
