They'd had a hit with their debut, "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" but the self-penned follow-up - “I’ve Got Mine” - stiffed; as a result, their manager Don Arden (Sharon Osbourne's father) ordered them to record this. (Kind of like The Beatles issuing "How Do You Do It" if "Please Please Me" had tanked.)

Co-written by the late Kenny Lynch, this song indeed made it to #3, but at the cost of self-respect. Their newfound teeny bopper following disenchanted many, not least singer Steve Marriott, who felt that their credibility had been compromised. Still, they rocked the hell out of it…

On this day in 1977, the Ramones releasesd their second studio album, Leave Home, less than a year after the band’s wall-rattling debut album.

The band was still armed with a large stash of songs from when they entered the studio for their debut album, so their decision was to start from the beginning and proceed from there. "We recorded them in the order they were written," guitarist Johnny Ramone said in the liner notes to the 2001 Leave Home re-issue. "We wanted to show a slight progression in song structure." Drummer and co-producer Tommy Ramone called their second offering "heavier, more melodies with more bite."

The songs in Leave Home concentrate on various themes, with the musical tones being diverse as well. Some tunes were more pop-oriented, while others, like "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" and "Pinhead" were loaded with distorted guitars and had a more punk rock sound.
