Forgive our silence, but it’s been a little wild around here. Team members that have been local to Fort Collins this summer have fit cow work in between summer classes, jobs, and travel. We’ve helped collect PAP data, yearling data, breeding soundness data, worked cows and calves, synchronized cows and heifers and are walking through breeding season.
Grateful for endless opportunities and a century old tradition of cows on campus. Students learning and leading alongside our state’s leading ag commodity—beef cattle. Learning by doing somehow doesn’t feel like school… ☀️ 💚🧡

Last weekend, Dr. Sam Cunningham & team member, Hailey Wood spent Saturday in Brush engaging with youth from across the region and their families. They listened to speeches, sales talk presentations, and led the quiz bowl competition. It was the best way to spend a day and they’re already looking forward to next year! Best of luck to all of the exhibitors as they work towards junior nationals and county fairs. We hope to see you down the road soon!! 🧡💚

Sweet summertime ☀️ Hereford cows on green grass. Does it get much better?! 🫶🏻
We are certainly thankful that we have a front row seat to all season of the on-campus cow herd. We made it through calving and are looking forward to breeding. Equal to learning, we are grateful for the community that this cow herd brings— camaraderie among students, on-farm relationships with faculty, and continued legacy of legends like Dr. Bob Taylor and others.
Just look at that horizon— what a beautiful place to learn! 🧡💚

It’s turn out time!! Some have already endured breeding season, some are just turning out, and it’ll be a while for others. Regardless— what a view this Hereford bull has for summer ‘27?!
Mark your calendars for our 50th ANNUAL BULL & FEMALE SALE on February 20, 2027. How remarkable is it that we get to continue Dr. Taylor’s legacy and sell cattle in the space named for Dr. Taylor, the guy that started it all!

Congratulations to our very own Grace Stott! She’s interning with the American Hereford Association at Olson Ranches this summer. We know she’ll be great, and Dr. Sam Cunningham knows Grace will love her home state of Nebraska 😉

A throwback to calving season and sunrise 🌅 Over a century of beef cattle at Colorado State University. A place where stockmen and women come into their own— launching careers, fostering dreams, finding friendships and mentorships, and collecting small moments like this—new life on a new day.
There are hundreds of new students headed our way come fall. We’re proud of the possibility of opening the gates and share the coolest learning place in the country—sunrise and range to the East, mountains and sunsets to the West, and nothing but opportunities in between.
In a state who’s leading agricultural commodity is beef cattle, what a blessing it is to maintain a cowherd that allows us to share ag and livestock production, to teach students, and to grow the confidence of young people with goals of stewarding and contributing to livelihoods and food systems.
While we do a lot with the cowherd as a CSU Seedstock Merchandising Team, we’re glad to share with fellow Rams, alumni, and friends. Proudly carrying on Dr. Bob Taylor’s legacies of beef cattle and Learning by Doing at CSU. The Land Grant mission exists to educate, to research, and to share. How lucky that we get to practice that week in and week out?

We’ve uncovered files of archived stuff! 🤗 And, we’re excited to share it, especially this year, our 50th YEAR! 🧡💚 Colorado State University — Where CATTLE & COLLEGE go hand in hand giving students KNOWLEDGE TO GO PLACES. Proud to be part of Dr. Taylor’s legacy of LEARNING BY DOING.

This teaching herd is legacy and tradition and foundation. It’s a place where students practice animal husbandry and livestock handling. For Seedstock students it adds layers of genetic selection and marketing. It’s full-circle, especially for the students part of the Seedstock Merchandising program. Over the course of the past 50 years, Seedstock Merchandising students have been fortunate to work alongside four engaged and talented faculty advisors. Here’s to another century (and then some) of cows on campus, to a half-century of selling CSU bred bulls, and a quarter-century of exhibiting cattle National Western Stock Show.
