Under section 66.1335 Wisconsin Statutes (i.e., the “Community Development Authority Law”) the CDA was created as a “corporate body politic” authorized to transact business and exercise any and all powers. The purpose of the CDA is to encourage growth of the City’s tax base; and stimulate the flow of investment capital into the city. Additionally, the CDA works to eliminate or prevent substandard, deteriorated, unsanitary, and blighted areas within the city; provide and retain gainful employment opportunities for citizens of the city; provide affordable housing in the city. If elected Mayor I would resurrect this committee. I would fill the vacant positions with business leaders and encourage the use of resources available to build the tax base through controlled business and residential growth. This committee would be charged with looking at state and federal resources to create a small business incubator in Delafield that would have huge financial impact for the city without putting a burden our city services. This committee should be one of the most important city committees, not an afterthought. Communications
My business and government experience has led me to an obvious conclusion; most issues are a result of miss communication. I call it “mutual mystification”. In the City of Delafield, we believe that we communicate well with the citizens through the city website, newsletter and or broadcasting the council and plan committee meetings online. While those are all a good start, they fall short in connecting with the average Delafield Resident. The city staff is over burden with gathering information for the City Communicator Newsletter and it does not come out often enough. And sometimes when it does come out the information is outdated. And it should not be a political forum for our elected officials. I would not have a self-serving letter from the mayor as part of the Communicator. Instead, a letter from the City Staff incorporating important news and information about up coming road project, event and activities should be the focus. We should have a volunteer communication committee staffed by professional communication experts that would work with the library, the chamber of commerce, Promotion and Tourism. volunteer organizations, the city staff, the DPW, and other departments to continuously get the word out about Delafield happenings. This committee would work through traditional media stream and social media to keep the website, page and newsletter up to date and newsworthy. This As mayor I would host a bi-monthly webinar featuring a city official or department head on relevant topics. The Communication Committee would relieve some of the communications duties of the City Clerk. I have confidence that within the population of Delafield we can find communication professionals to help with this task.
