On Saturday, June 6, about 40 members and friends of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson gathered for a "prairie church" service.
Hosting the event at their rural Jefferson home were the congregation's moderator, Linda Glendon, and her husband, Jeff.
The Rev. Dr. Sara Rabe led the service, which focused on enjoying and appreciating nature and letting go of (and burning) burdens as a profound act of spiritual release and healing amidst creation.
This marked the congregation's second service in the form of "wild church," an ecospiritual movement that emphasizes experiencing the divine directly through creation. Last fall, church members gathered beneath the church's landmark bur oak tree for worship.
Of course, First Congregational UCC also worships indoors! Summer services are held at 9 a.m. Sundays through Labor Day. The church is located at 33 West Milwaukee Avenue.

Seventeen people participated in an inspirational retreat at Moon Beach United Church of Christ Camp near St. Germain May 28-30. Led by our own Pastor Sara Rabe, the retreat included members of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson, as well as women from Milwaukee, Janesville, Edgerton, Stoughton, Verona, Neenah and Galena, Ill.
The theme was "Savoring the Spirit," with activities, vespers and meditations focusing on the"wild church" eco-spiritual movement. It was a relaxing, grounding and introspective two days shared by women who arrived as strangers and left as friends.

About 25 members arrived at First Congregational UCC an hour early Sunday to participate in a Covenant Conversation with representatives of the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ.
Sarah Pundt, of the conference's Regional Support Team for the Committee on Ministry, heard about all the wonderful things that are happening at, as well as any concerns and ideas relating to, the Fort Atkinson church and state conference. This feedback will be used to provide resources for UCC churches statewide.
Assisting Pundt as notetaker was the Rev. Gayle Tucker, a member of the Wisconsin UCC Board of Directors.
