Today I received the perfect Father’s Day gift.

At the 10am Mass, four former parishioners from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish surprised me—now grown men, joined by their wives and children. When we first met, they were just 10 years old.

To see the men, husbands, and fathers they’ve become… I couldn’t be more proud or grateful to share in the gift of being a spiritual father.

After Six-Year Journey Back, St. Mel’s Catholic Academy Celebrates a Graduating Class in Queens St. Mel’s Catholic Academy’s graduation celebration was more than a send-off for 11 eighth graders — it was a milestone.

Fr. Alban Baker, a religious priest from West Virginia, is in town visiting his brother, our parishioner Nick Baker. Today, he joined his nephew Flynn—one of our newly installed altar servers—at the altar for Mass. What a special grace for the Baker family & our family of St. Mel.

As our nation prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Saint-Marc joyfully marked 25 years of ministry in the United States.

Originally founded in Saint-Marc (Alsace) France, their mission brought them here to care for the aged and infirm—many serving as registered nurses, offering both skilled care and deep compassion.

Our own St. Mel community, like St. Kevin’s, is blessed to share in that same spirit through the Carmelite Sisters at Ozanam Hall in Bayside.

This past Wednesday’s celebration was made even more special with the presence of two provincials from India, along with sisters from foundations in Texas and Ohio—a beautiful reminder of the global reach of their mission.

Ending the year in style at Citi Field ⚾️

260 members of our Academy community gathered for an evening of praise, thanksgiving, and celebration. We marked our school’s remarkable comeback over the past six years and celebrated the gift of our 11 graduates.

St. Mel’s students and their families enjoyed a special night at the ballpark—beginning with Holy Mass and continuing with food, fun activities for the kids, stadium tours, and even a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Met!

A highlight of the night: Fr. Fonti took the pitcher’s mound, throwing to Mrs. Giacalone, our principal, at home plate.

A heartfelt thank you to our Board Chair, Steve Somers, for sponsoring this special event and making the evening possible.

At the end of each school year, our entire student body is treated to a soft ice cream delight—thanks to NY Ice Cream!

Owned by the family of one of our students, this generous tradition has become a favorite for all. It’s a sweet way to celebrate the year’s accomplishments and send everyone into summer with smiles. 🍦
