Wonder why we have so many dead and unhealthy pines? The drought we have had this year has put our trees under great stress which cause secondary problems like a broken down immune system in a human. So now the southern pine beetle and epps beetle are attacking the trees that are under stress from this drought, down here in Mississippi. Also look at the tree and see if there are exit holes from beatles. But the drought really didn't kill the trees it just predispose them and lowered their immune system opening them up to secondary problems such as diplodia twig blight and the beatles of course and the needle cast which is a foliar disease, the first trick to diagnosing is identifying exactly what kind of pine tree it is, jazz loblolly, short leaf pine, southern pine, yellow pine, etc...
