Dear Parents and Students,

I am writing to share some news with you. I have decided that after 57 and a half years of loving and owning this studio, I will be moving on to new adventures. This has been a very hard decision for me as dance has really been my whole life. I loved being a student of dance, getting my Cecchetti certifications, training and touring with notable dance companies, but most of all I loved teaching and training students. There is something very special about having a student accomplish the technique and style that I have presented in a multitude of ways. When a student progresses forward, my heart soars, teaching has been the great joy and the privilege of my life. I have always come home from teaching so excited about the student’s accomplishments.



I am also proud of my accomplishments in dance. I began teaching in my parent’s basement when I was 14 years old and 7 buildings later, Terry Matlock Dance has grown into a studio that I am extremely proud of. I work with wonderful women who mostly grew up in my classes and are excellent teachers. You have trusted me with your students, we have created a dance family and we have grown together. Over the years I have taught students from age 2 to adult. I have created a high ranking Cecchetti Ballet School. My teachers and I have trained little ballerinas up to professional dancers, collegiate dancers and dance teachers. We have become an award-winning competitive school. But most of all I have been given the opportunity to share my love of dance with thousands of students. I have been truly blessed.



Over the summer I plan to transition the ownership of the studio to

Amanda Morris-Juergens to move this school forward. She trained in this school and is devoted to it. I truly believe she is the one to take us to the next level. She is dedicated, forward thinking, extensively trained, and an excellent teacher. She is the perfect choice, and I am confident she will do great things here. I would never leave if I didn’t feel strongly about her capabilities.



I will still be here to support her and cheer on the studio, you may see me guest teaching in some Cecchetti Ballet Classes, and I will be following my granddaughter to all the competitions. However, this will be my last time on the Whiting Stage. It is very bittersweet for me, as this studio has been a large part of my life. We are devastated to learn of the passing of Memphis. Memphis danced with us for many years and will always be a part of our dance family. She brought joy to our studio and touched the lives of so many around her.
