We’re calling on everyone in Detroit’s music ecosystem to take part in this initiative. Similar efforts have already led to real, positive change in other cities, and it’s time for our community to be counted and heard.
The Greater Detroit Music Census is a community-led effort to capture an accurate picture of who we are, how we work, and what we need right now. It’s about documenting the full spectrum of creatives and professionals who make up Detroit’s music culture, from artists to organizers to industry workers, so decisions about support and resources are grounded in reality, not assumptions.
The Census opens today, February 3, and is open to all musicians and music industry professionals in Detroit and within a 75-mile radius. The data collected will help local music organizations develop more equitable, informed, and effective ways to support the people who actually sustain this scene. The survey runs through March 3.
If you care about Detroit music and its future, take the time to participate.
