Great News! Miss Lacey has a couple openings in her daycare home beginning September 3rd. Ages 2.5-5 She is in downtown Flushing just a couple blocks north of the Library. Lacey has one of the biggest hearts for children I've seen. Her hard work ethic, experience, education (CDA) and CPR/First aid training will make her child care a loving, safe and stimulating spot for your child to grow and learn. Leg Hugs and Mud Pies
watching small strides become sudden growth
their blowing me away with simple insights
their innocent enthusiasm
bandaging knees and cold towels that could magically make it all better
their seeing beauty in dandelions and hiding beneath the grape vines
the wonder they see in insects and nature
their ability to forgive quickly and leave it all behind just seconds later
their living in the moment--without reading articles or listening to Ted Talks on how to do so.
their enthusiasm over new projects and activities
watching them work out differences as they learn to collaborate
castles and forts that appear from worn blocks, torn sheets and salvaged cardboard
watching them run, and climb, and imagine all their dreams come true while playing their versions of pop-up restaurants, house, and school
the silliness and nonsense that peppered our days with laughter
the possibility of each day being a do-over
watching them form friendships with the ability to include even the most awkward peer into their play and accept things for how they are
their contagious excitement as a spontaneous summer rain falls from the sky
a six foot teenager walking through the front door and finding the child I knew in their face as we each share memories of years that flew by.
marveling at the giggles and belly laughs over things so simple it could completely disarm me
the music makers that invent instruments from pans and spoons as they burst into singing and dancing
the anticipation on their faces as we read together
watching a simple scarf turn the shyest child into a super hero
misspelled notes and paintings that dulled actual works of Picasso
watching self-esteem and confidence develop from problem solving
their being there each morning, no matter how challenging things seemed the night before
their melting a stressful situation into a reminder of what is really important
their asking questions that I couldn’t answer
their inherent honesty and strong sense of fairness
their trust in me

I hope I’ll always remember to listen to the wisdom of children and how they taught me to fill my days with resilience, adventure, and laughter. What a beautiful gift I was given in my life! I am so grateful for my mom, modeling her unconditional love for children, the dedicated and creative staff members, my family, parents and children for their support, trust, and faith in me to do this meaningful work… it will all lovingly be missed, with the exception of my 4 a.m. alarm.
