For today's Fridays in the Field, we're highlighting last night's River & Roots Celebration with Keep Genesee County Beautiful and the Flint River Watershed Coalition!
This annual event celebrates the power of community partnerships while bringing neighbors together to connect with nature and one another. This year's carnival-themed celebration featured live music, games and activities, free food and drinks, opportunities to connect with local organizations making a difference throughout Genesee County, and special recognition of outstanding community members. The Flint River and Community Stewardship Golden Gloves Award, presented for the Stewardship Day event, was awarded to the individual who discovered a wooden rocking horse at Glenwood Cemetery. The Dr. Gary Pace Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Tiffany Minder, and the Joe Leonardi Leadership Award was presented to Patricia Ramirez. Congratulations to all three recipients on these well-deserved honors!
A special thank you to all of the participating organizations that helped make this event possible: Friends of the Flint River Trail, Flint Institute of Music, For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum, Wolverine Campground, Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad, Genesee County Parks - State Park, Genesee County Human Resources and Labor Relations, Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Crim Fitness Foundation, Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, Sloan Museum of Discovery, Motherly Intercession, Genesee Conservation District, Factory Two, Mid Michigan Therapy Dogs, and Uncle Ray's!
It was an evening filled with fun, laughter, and community spirit along the Flint River!

If you see concrete in our parks, chances are it was poured by our Construction Crew!
Though they may be a small team, these dedicated members take on projects throughout our park system, many of which focus on improving accessibility through ADA-compliant pathways, campsites, and park amenities.
For today's Fridays in the Field, we headed out to Bluegill Boat Launch earlier this week to check on their latest project. Just in time for Get Youth Outdoors Day tomorrow, the crew has installed two new ADA-accessible concrete pads that provide improved access to the pavilion built last year.
If you've walked on a new ADA path, stayed at an upgraded campsite, or spent time under one of our pavilions, chances are you've experienced the work of our Construction Crew. Thank you to this dedicated team for all they do to make our parks more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
Be sure to check out the new improvements tomorrow during Get Youth Outdoors Day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!
