It's Christmas week in the clinic! ☃️🍪 Finding fun and festive ways to celebrate the holidays AND practice target goals always brings me joy. The Melissa and Doug Cookie Dough activity allows a multitude of ways to target language, speech, fluency, and pragmatics. Here are some of the fun ways we are using this toy:

❄️Targeting the /k/ sound: cut, cookie, can I have the ___ cookie?
❄️Language expansion: I want (Santa, holly, etc,), eat __, What cookie do you want?
❄️Receptive Language: Find the brown icing with the green dots and white strips
❄️Counting 1:1 and identifying colors
❄️Taking turns making a cookie or requesting/sharing a cookie
❄️Categorizing cookies by color, objects, people, animals
❄️Targeting sign language: my turn, please, eat, cookie
❄️Prepositions: on top, in, under, next to, beside
❄️Using smooth speech strategies to identify and request cookies

All of these activities can be used with toys you have at home too! As always, remember to have fun when playing and modeling for your children. Just like Santa, your kids are always watching. 😄

I would like to introduce Helen Griffith to my practice! Born on March 26th, weighing 7 pounds 7 ounce! She is the perfect addition to our family and we are smitten. I can tell she is already excited for me to practice therapy techniques and all the fun speech activities I have planned with her.

I am currently on maternity leave until the first week of June. Have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day. Good luck to my students with the end of your school year!

With the weather getting colder, activities are moving indoors! I love following Busy Toddler. She has amazing, fun, and creative ideas for parents and their kids. These easy activities also create opportunities for you to build and model language/speech for your children! Get down and play with these easy, at home ideas!

A dear friend of mine gifted EIGHT books by Mo Willems for my business! I am beyond grateful for her thoughtful donation! ❤️

I love incorporating literacy into my sessions. These simple but creative books help to build language and pragmatic skills in a fun way! I can’t wait to start my lesson planning!

Most of us find it adorable when our children mispronounce different words and sounds when they are young and first learning to speak. In most cases, your child will outgrow these errors in production. However, some cases like a lisp, may require further intervention.

Lisps are very common in children and there are many reasons why they develop. While they are normal in early childhood development, if a child continues to have a lisp by the age of seven, you should seek professional assistance as the longer you wait to treat one, the harder they are to correct. You may seek professional services earlier if you notice that your child is becoming self conscious or possibly being picked on by their peers because of their speech.

If you have questions about your child or are ready to take the jump towards therapy, contact me today. (317 )721-4391
