The Fircrest Police Department extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Sergeant John Villamor, “Sarge,” as he prepares to retire at the end of this month.

Sgt. Villamor began his law enforcement career in 1989 in Hawaii before relocating to Washington and shortly thereafter joining the Fircrest Police Department in October 1997. Over the course of his tenure, he steadily advanced through the ranks and became both a trusted member of the command team and a well-respected officer within the Fircrest community. As noted by Fircrest Police Chief Celis, “for nearly 4 decades, Sgt Villamor has demonstrated unwavering dedication to duty, setting a standard of excellence that will continue to inspire future generations. The countless lives he has touched, both within the department and in the community, stand as a testament to his character and leadership.”

At the June 9 City of Fircrest Council meeting, Sgt. Villamor was formally recognized by Proclamation for his many years of dedicated service, outstanding contributions, and steadfast commitment to the City of Fircrest and its residents. He is scheduled to formally retire on June 26.

Please join us in wishing “Sarge” a long, healthy, and fulfilling retirement.

In conjunction with national high visibility “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaigns during the month of May and in advance of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, seatbelt emphasis will be conducted in Pierce County from May 16 to 24.

𝑰𝒇 𝒍𝒂𝒘 𝒆𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒕𝒆𝒅, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒑𝒖𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒆 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕.

Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Being buckled up during a crash helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle; the seat belt slows you down and spreads crash forces over the strongest parts of your body. Despite steady increases in observed seat belt use, approximately half of all passenger vehicle deaths are unrestrained.

𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘆
· Place the shoulder belt across the middle of the chest and away from the neck.
· Lay the lap belt across the hips and not the stomach.
· NEVER place the seat belt behind the back or under arms.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week.

This week, we join communities across the country in recognizing National Police Week. It is a time to honor the service and sacrifice of the men and women in law enforcement who dedicate their lives to protecting our neighborhoods. From responding to emergencies in the middle of the night to building relationships through community outreach, their commitment ensures our families can feel safe and secure. We also hold a special place of honor for those who have lost their lives in the line of duty; their bravery and legacy will never be forgotten.

To all those who wear the badge with integrity and compassion: 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆.

The Police Department has recently been notified that a resident received a phone call from an individual claiming to be one of our detectives. The caller asked for personal information, including bank account details, and stated they were working with the FBI and Homeland Security.

Fortunately, the resident did not provide any information and contacted the police department directly.

Although the caller ID displayed the police department’s phone number, this can happen through a process known as “spoofing,” which allows a caller to manipulate the number that appears on your phone.

⚠️ Important reminders:
• Be cautious when receiving unexpected calls requesting personal or financial information.
• If you are not involved in an active case or feel uncomfortable answering questions, hang up.
• Call the police department directly using the official phone number to verify whether the call is legitimate.

🚫 The Police Department will not threaten or pressure residents to provide personal information over the phone.

If you receive a call like this or have questions, please contact the Police Department directly.
