Michigan 4-H State Hippology Contest registration is open and ready for participants!

Interested in testing your Equine Knowledge? Does the idea of working in a team to solve problems thrill you? Come and compete at the Michigan 4-H State Hippology Contest!

Youth aged 5-19 are eligible to participate in the Michigan 4-H State Hippology Contest. Cloverbuds, Junior and Senior divisions as well as Junior Novice and Senior Novice allow for youth to demonstrate their comprehensive equine knowledge and skills in an engaging setting.

It's back! The 2024 Hippology Academy kicks off on February 17. Topics for this year include toxic plants of the northeast, horse evaluation, feeding myths, soil testing and usage, identifying feeds, and fencing. Content for each topic includes practice tests, slides, and digital learning stations in addition to twice weekly lectures.

There are three enrollment levels to choose from:

1. Bronze: All content listed above, accessible until August 31, 2024.

2. Sliver: Everything included in Bronze, plus can ask teacher questions, participate in discussion board, and have access to course material until November 31, 2024.

3. Gold: Everything included in Silver, plus opportunity to participate in live virtual office hours with instructor (Thursday evenings) and access to course material until December 31, 2024.

Consider attending the Michigan 4-H Horse Judging workshop and Clinic on February 2nd and 3rd at the MSU Pavilion for Ag and Livestock Education!

Carded judge and Clinician Dr. Karen Waite will present on Ranch riding and Ranch rail during Friday night's workshop.
Saturday has youth and adults judging live horses in Halter, Ranch Riding, and Ranch Rail. As well as provide opportunity for the youth to give oral reasons and receive slight feedback.

Our next meeting will be:
Tuesday October 11th at 7pm and done by 8 so littles can get to bed on time.
