Interesting

A peer-reviewed study published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science revealed that two out of three dogs diagnosed with certain types of cancer (e.g. lymphoma) had been exposed to benzene at DNA-damaging, genotoxic levels. The research proved that the volatile organic compound (VOC) Benzene is directly genotoxic to canine lymphoid cells, causing measurable DNA strand breaks and oxidative damage that often precede a formal cancer diagnosis. Because dogs live closer to the ground where heavy chemical vapors naturally settle, breathe faster than humans, and frequently lick their paws, they are uniquely vulnerable to absorbing these invisible environmental toxins.

In everyday environments, both humans and animals are exposed to benzene primary by breathing contaminated indoor air, or through accidental skin contact. In the home, benzene is continuously released by common items such as household cleaners, synthetic air fresheners, scented candles, paints, glues, and emissions from gas stoves or to***co smoke. It also enters the household via manufactured personal care products—like contaminated aerosol dry shampoos or deodorants—and outdoor tracking of gasoline fumes, motor vehicle exhaust and industrial pollution.

Once absorbed, benzene undergoes metabolic activation in the liver and moves into the bone marrow, where it acts as a known carcinogen for both species. Chronic exposure causes severe hematological damage, including bone marrow suppression, a depleted immune system, and an increased risk of blood-related malignancies like leukemia in humans and malignant lymphoma in dogs.
