⁣3 things to help you sit better to the canter:⁣
⁣
⁣
💫 Don’t actively tense your “core”. Your upper abdominals will work in a lengthened position to stop you tipping forwards but you don’t need to consciously brace for this. When you do consciously brace your abdominals you bring your upper bony towards your hips, block your diaphragm and your hips, and this makes you tip forward and tense and bounce against the horses movement. ⁣Instead BREATHE!! - and breathe using your diaphragm. This allows your diaphragm, deep abdominal muscles and pelvic floor to work subconsciously in a coordinated manner to control intra abdominal pressure and allow you to better absorb the movement of your horse rather than bouncing. ⁣
⁣
💫 Allow your pelvis and hips to follow the movement of the horse - think of tiny little feet attached to your seat bones 👣 ⁣
As the horses right hind leg moves forward so should your tiny little foot on the right side, and then the left. Practice this off the horse by allowing your pelvis to roll back and forwards, then try shifting the weight onto each seat bone and then rolling back and forwards. Compare how it feels on each side. ⁣
⁣
⁣
💫 Good eccentric muscle control of our hips, pelvis and trunk (muscles actively contracting into a lengthened position) is what allows us to absorb the movement of the horse and look like we’re not moving. Train for this off the horse. The level 1 Activate Your Seat exercises in the bungi are all designed to help with this - you can purchase your bungi and access to the online exercise video from my website www.activateyourseat.com (link in my bio). I post the bungis worldwide 🌎 ⁣

Baby O learned today that you can walk next to a big kid around the arena. As usual, she did GREAT! She acted like she had done this many times. She is calm, focused and more trusting of me since we started our training adventures under the guidance of Jo Jo. We are so grateful to Jo Jo. This is one special mare!

Heartbreak! Our beloved “Pup Pup, Roo Roo, aka “Atlas” went to heaven. Please keep us in your thoughts/prayers as we grieve. He adored kids, would fetch until he literally dropped, loved to swim (river, pool, water troughs), would drag lg tree limbs acres to play with, was known throughout the neighborhood and probably logged more miles that from here to the moon. The hole in our hearts is huge…
