The rainy, winter season is best time to plant Mediterranean type plants including California natives. These plants thrive with cool temperatures and rain. Lush new growth occurs and root system grows deeply so that they can survive the summer drought. Some great flowering examples.

This is the blooming season for many of the Aloes. From left to right Aloe africana (medium to large, solitary, 2-12 feet high)), Aloe krapohliana (dwarf to 8 inches), Aloe capitata (small, solitary, Madagascar species to 18 inches high), and Aloe hereroensis (medium size, solitary plant to 2 1/2 feet high).
