Bristol Community College’s (BCC) recent nursing admissions error reaches beyond a single administrative mistake. The issue is not only that 29 applicants were incorrectly accepted into the school’s program. The larger concern is what happens when students build their futures around official communication, only to be told later that the decision was wrong and that clear answers may not be immediately available.

On April 1, 29 Bristol Community College (BCC) prospective nursing students received inaccurate admissions notifications due to an “administrative error,” according to an email sent to the nursing program applicants. BCC’s nursing program is competitive, only admitting a limited number of students each year.

“25 Years: 40 Artists Reflect on a Quarter Century of Exhibitions” is a multimedia experience that celebrates the work of the Grimshaw-Gudewicz gallery from its conception in the year 2000. The exhibition was on display until April 2 at the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Art Gallery on BCC’s Fall River campus.

When the exhibition was conceptualized, Gallery Director Kathleen Hancock intended to display 25 works—one for each year the gallery has been open—but ultimately displayed all 40 submissions that the gallery received in an effort not to diminish any voices from the collection. “I really wanted to develop an opportunity to submit work as an open call to all who have displayed their work over the past 25 years. The way I work is to always have mutual respect between all of us who are making work and showing work.” Hancock said.
