Yesterday afternoon, members of the Fall River Public Schools Central Office Team and the Fall River School Committee came together for their first Professional Development collaborative retreat, focused on strengthening communication, building trust, and identifying shared priorities.

Improving the working relationship between the School Committee and Central Office is one of Interim Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Smith’s top priorities. The Profession Development provided an opportunity for district leaders to come together, reflect on the district’s strengths, discuss future goals, and continue building a culture of collaboration centered on student success.

Made possible through the support of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC), this was the first of several professional development and team-building opportunities planned for the coming year. Thank you to Whitsons for providing a delicious lunch.

Henry Lord Community School Science Fair 2026

Showing off what they've learned.

Henry Lord Community School's 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students have been hard at work this semester designing, testing, and analyzing their own science fair projects. Yesterday afternoon, they had the opportunity to showcase their work during the school's Annual Science Fair.

An estimated 70 projects were on display as families, students, and HLCS staff browsed through the cafeteria, asking questions and learning all about the student-designed experiments.

This year's projects explored everything from which type of paper makes the best paper airplane and whether appearance affects food choices, to paper towel absorbency, whether dogs have a dominant paw, if primer is worth the extra step, a project inspired by Stranger Things, and so much more.

Many students told us they were surprised to find that their hypotheses were wrong—but that's what science is all about. The projects gave students the opportunity to think critically, follow the evidence, and discover that some of the most valuable learning happens when the results aren't what you expected.

Great work, scientists!
