Here’s a list to help you prepare and gather your tax documents before your appointment or before you drop off this year.

The portal to unenroll from advanced child tax credit payments is now available. IRS will be sending out monthly advanced payments of your 2021 child tax credit to those eligible. **please remember this is an ADVANCE and any amount received in advance will need to report on next year’s return**. If you choose to unenroll in the advanced option you will receive the full amount you are eligible for when you file next year. If you file jointly with a spouse and are opting out, both you and your spouse need to complete the opt out steps individually. Also if you alternate years claiming a shared dependent, opting out will prevent paying back any amount you are not eligible for on next year’s tax return. Some families may prefer to wait until the end of the year and receive the entire Child Tax Credit instead of receiving advance payments. There is an IRS tool that lets them do just that: https://go.usa.gov/x6y6s
