In 1888, American composer and conductor John Philip Sousa's march "Semper Fidelis" was officially adopted by the United States Marine Corps. Sousa became known as the "March King" because of his many famous marches that are still performed today.

In 1843, composer Edvard Grieg was born. He wrote music inspired by the mountains and landscapes of Norway.
