Bloodshed for Independence: Flag of Ukraine.

This painting is the third in a series «Ukrainian Flag». Inspired by the one of the most expensive artwork ever sold «Flag» by Jasper Johns. It represents the eternal struggle of the Ukrainian people for independence of their country. The collage of newspapers in the background are the documents that are witnessing two stages the country experienced while seeking its independence: Third and Fourth Universal of Central Rada in 1918 - the time of formation of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, and declaration of independence along with Ukrainian constitution in 1991 right after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Ukraine as a nation have never fought for our independence - it was given in 1991 without any blood drop spilled. These days Ukrainian nation fearlessly fights for its land to be finally free form the Russian’ suppression and Soviet mindset. The strip of red paint in the middle of the painting symbolizes the spilling of innocent blood of Ukrainian people caused by Russia and their tyrannous leader Putin while invading Ukraine and ruining its cities starting 24th February 2022.

These days, I was interviewed by the Voice of America as a leading artist of the SHERO exhibit at the first Ukrainian Gallery Mriya, New York. I feel blessed and empowered to continue my art journey by serving the social, aesthetic, and thoughtful progress.

Today is an exciting day - the Old New Year celebration according to the Julian calendar. Although the world switched to the modern Julian calendar in 1582, my home country Ukraine, still celebrates this holiday having a lot of fun. According to tradition, the night from January 13th to January 14th is magic. This time you can get answers to your questions, make your dreams come true, and find the love of your life. So, let's make wishes, and may all our wishes come true!
