Still lamenting the loss of Clem Burke.💔 Not only was he a genuinely kind soul, but also one of those drummers who truly appreciated all elements of music, not just the groove. I was reminded these past few days that the first time we ever played with Brian was for a radio show in 1995. Our drummer Mike was out of town and so Clem offered to fill in. This was during a time when Brian was working on a lot of cool stuff with Andy Paley and so Andy showed up as well.

We were slated to play a few Beach Boys songs along with some of our own…and I remember being shocked and flattered that Clem knew our stuff as well as he did. At one point I gave him one of those “how could this be happening?” looks and he just said, “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴.” That has stuck with me just as much as playing-with-Brian-for-the-first-time has. Thank you Clem (and Andy) for helping pave the way.😇😇

Thirty one years ago today we (along with 𝐵𝑎𝑏𝑦 𝐿𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑑𝑒, 𝐴𝑛𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑤, and others) were invited to play in Paul Rock’s living room. Little did we know at the time that it would be the first of many Wild Honey events to come. Here’s a CliffsNotes montage video of the set we played that night.
