Today is Stop Food Waste Day! One of the best ways to reduce food waste is to learn more about food labels. These labels can be very confusing, so we've included some short explanations (from the USDA) of common label terms!

Our Power Pack Program (P3) is currently struggling due to food shortages! If you're unfamiliar with the program, it provides weekend meals to students in need at 44 schools throughout Northern Virginia. The program serves between 3,400 and 4,000 students per week.
Please help us continue to feed NOVA students by donating FOOD! We're currently in high need of P3 items including milk (single serve boxes), juice (ex: capri suns), and mac n cheese.

We're delivering record numbers of power packs this year, so sometimes we end up low on resources! One way you can help support the Power Pack Program is by contributing reusable bags!
Every year, Tuesday after Thanksgiving people come together to support charities across the world.
Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a way to encourage radical generosity. It was founded by the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact in New York City.
This year we're hoping you'll join together to help us serve more families in need! Donations of any size MAKE an impact!
https://foodforothers.salsalabs.org/GivinginNovember/index.html
We're STILL matching donations that come in through the end of November! Since January 1st, we've had many food orders from residents of Lorton, Manassas, and McLean.

You may be wondering: "Does anyone in my community really need food?"
Northern Virginia has a reputation for affluence, but despite some truth to that reputation, there are many people in need. You may even be surprised by the need in your own neighborhood!
MATCH ALERT!!
If you donate now through the end of November, an anonymous donor has agreed to match your donation.
https://foodforothers.salsalabs.org/novembergiving
As Thanksgiving approaches, you may be asking:
"Who should I donate to?"
Or
"How will I know my donation matters?"
At Food for Others, we have an impact on the neighborhoods directly around you! Reach out to [email protected] if you'd like to learn more about how your donation can make a difference.
