As many of us prepare to gather around our tables with loved ones, Food for Others wants to give a big thank you to our community! We are grateful for your support and commitment to our mission of feeding families and nourishing lives in our community.

Thanksgiving can mean hectic travel plans, finding the perfect turkeys recipe, and enjoying time with your loved ones. However, for many of our neighbors, the reality is very different. As you enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner and celebrate abundance, we encourage you to keep your hearts open to your neighbors who may be facing an empty plate.

Food for Others' Executive Director, Deb, had the opportunity to sit down with the Washington Post and discuss some of our challenges and triumphs amid the buildup to Thanksgiving, one of the busiest times at Food for Others.

Compared to years prior, we've seen a 30% increase in food distribution in FY24. We are grateful for the community support we receive throughout the holidays. Many of these donations help support our pantry throughout the year.

Food banks’ demand surges ahead of first Thanksgiving without pandemic aid Food stamp cuts affected over a million households in the D.C. area. Ahead of Thanksgiving, some local food banks say the need is higher than it’s been in years.

The Stuff the Bus campaign, hosted by Volunteer Fairfax is active through November 30th! Consider supporting your local food banks and pantries this giving season.

Today’s highlights the annual St. Paul VI Catholic High Schooll Food drive! Each November Paul VI students and staff join together and host a P3 food drive. This year, they collected over 39,000 Lbs of food!

Food for Others is continuing to serve growing numbers in our community. A $25 donation purchases a gallon of milk for 15 families - a pantry staple in many of our neighbor’s homes.

On the first Thursday of November, we want to give a shoutout to Wegmans for their Checkout Hunger initiative! Today our team “checked out” the Reston Wegmans where Checkout Hunger proceeds benefit FFO!

We encourage you to visit your local wegmans through November 29th to show your support for your local food bank or pantry!

28 years ago today, Food for Others was founded by a group of community members who recognized the need and took action. Food for Others distributed over 3.5 million lbs. of food in FY23, serving over 60,000 neighbors (many multiple times). As we continue to grow in the community, we remain committed to our goal of feeding families and nourishing lives.

October 10th marks World Mental Health Day, a day intended to raise awareness and end the stigma about mental health around the globe.

Over 450 people joined us to kick off ! Feeding our neighbors takes a community and we couldn’t have accomplished this incredible event without all of you!

Hunger remains a stubborn reality for many of our neighbors. As we approach the holiday season, we continue to see an increase in food distribution. Everyone has the power to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors - our work would not be possible without our community support!

This month, we challenge you to become a ! Follow along with our interactive calendar as we share facts about food insecurity, ways to get involved in the fight against hunger, and ways to support Food for Others.
