Food banks’ demand surges ahead of first Thanksgiving without pandemic aid 11/20/2023

Food for Others' Executive Director, Deb, had the opportunity to sit down with the Washington Post and discuss some of our challenges and triumphs amid the buildup to Thanksgiving, one of the busiest times at Food for Others.

Compared to years prior, we've seen a 30% increase in food distribution in FY24. We are grateful for the community support we receive throughout the holidays. Many of these donations help support our pantry throughout the year.

Today’s highlights the annual St. Paul VI Catholic High Schooll Food drive! Each November Paul VI students and staff join together and host a P3 food drive. This year, they collected over 39,000 Lbs of food!

28 years ago today, Food for Others was founded by a group of community members who recognized the need and took action. Food for Others distributed over 3.5 million lbs. of food in FY23, serving over 60,000 neighbors (many multiple times). As we continue to grow in the community, we remain committed to our goal of feeding families and nourishing lives.

Executive Director Deb Haynes and former Executive Director Annie Turner recently spoke with the Washington Post about our community and the hunger our neighbors are facing.

Hunger remains a stubborn reality for many of our neighbors. As we approach the holiday season, we continue to see an increase in food distribution. Everyone has the power to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors - our work would not be possible without our community support!

No progress on hunger in D.C. region since pandemic, new report finds The Capital Area Food Bank’s survey showed about one-third of the region’s residents experienced food insecurity in 2022, for the third year in a row.

They also will host a raffle drawing for a complimentary treatment experience at each spa location.

September marks the beginning of - a nationwide campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity and empowering individuals to support their community

This month, we challenge you to become a ! Follow along with our interactive calendar as we share facts about food insecurity, ways to get involved in the fight against hunger, and ways to support Food for Others.

To celebrate our , we're doing a of Food for Others swag to those who participate! To participate in the giveaway, post a photo or video of you participating in one of our challenges! This can include a screenshot of your volunteer sign up, participating in a challenge, a photo at an event, etc. Make sure to include and tag Food for Others! At the end of the month, everyone who participates will be entered in a raffle to win an FFO swag bundle!
