Following up on our earlier post about the Rose and the Giant Pear, here's Sherri's personal finish! Her blessing sampler is done just in time for Woodlawn. Twinner Terri challenged her to stitch the Rose and the Giant Pear using "Sherri colors." (Those who know her know she changes everything). So, she grabbed some overdyed threads that hadn't put away from a couple of past projects and went to town. Stitched on Lakeside 52/60 V Pecan Butter using overdyed cottons, this tiny girl is even tinier. Here, we used a flame burl moulding with an antique gold fillet on the inside. For reference, we've also included a bit of the sampler's original colorway. Seeing these photos together is exactly why there's no "perfect" frame for any one chart- depending on things like fabric and fiber choice, a customer's personal taste, the style of the house it's going in, budget and overall size, many factors figure in to use helping the customer pick the frame choice that's perfect for them. What would you have chosen for this girl?

Locals, you can see her in person the whole month of March at the Woodlawn Needlework Show. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Nellie's Needlers, so it's shaping up to be an amazing show! Our shop drop off for the show is Thurs Jan 30th, so if you'd like us to bring your piece(s) to the show for you, we need them NLT Tues Jan 28th by closing. Don't forget your submission form, which can be done online at www.Woodlawn1805.org. Proceeds of the show support the upkeep and maintenance of the historic house.

Remember in November when we posted this beautiful finish of Hands Across the Seas “Rose and the Giant Pear” and we asked for your opinions on which frame you like the best? Goodness were there a lot of opinions on that post! And the funny thing is, there was no clear ‘winner’. We’ve never had a design where the frame choice was more polarizing than this one. Here’s what chose…. We love how one of the swirls on the gold frame looks so similar to the shape of the pear! Stay tuned for another post coming very soon with Sherri’s own finish of this gorgeous design. This finish inspired her to pull it out of her basket and create a color challenge with it! You’ll also be able to see it at the March Woodlawn Needlework Show.

What do you do when you have an amazing Nora Corbett Elektra to frame? Well, use equally amazing framing, of course! Here, we've paired an electric orange liner with an ornate gloss black frame, and the results are stunning. These Bewitching Pixies are always fun to design up, and adding a colored liner can be a whimsical and modern way to make the stitching really pop.

Due to inclement weather, both stores will be closed today. Daisy the shop dog is sad not to be in the store today, but happy to have the zoomies in the snow at home. Stay safe and warm, friends! We will reassess the weather tonight.

Needs some input for a fellow business owner- your opinions, and to gauge interest. This is a gorgeous handmade furniture finish cherry box with a rich birdseye maple bottom. It’s about 5” across. Would you be interested in products like this, what would you envision pricing range to be? Would they be better bigger, smaller, a different shape, etc? And are there any wood products you’ve secretly wished a good wood craftsman would make? We want to hear what you have to say! 😃

On this lovely finish of Joyeux Noel by Pineberry Lane, we used a beautiful warm walnut finished moulding with lots of intricate detailing that give it an Old World feel. This moulding works well on anything with warm tones that you want a vintage feel on. Love the red with it!

This charming Christmas needlework is “Christmas Sentiments” by Stoney Creek. We couldn’t decide whether to use the green burl frame to bring out the trees, or the gold to highlight the gold beads and threads, so we used both! And you know what happened? It brought out the red more by not using any red in the frame! 😆

Tonight we have the ES Spot Sampler by Of Female Worth. We used a gorgeous, rich Italian burl in a warm cognac color with a squiggley gold fillet to bring out the warm tones in the sampler. Don’t you love the live edge on the burl and the vintage-y vibe the joint lines (because it’s real burl!) give it? 😍

This is Miss Mary Hadley by Kathy Barrick. For this lovely lady, we used a rich cherry stained burl (with joint lines, of course!). It has delicate gold raked accent lines on both sides. If you framed Miss Mary, what did you use on her?

When you're a framer, and also like to craft and make wreaths.

Have an old frame hanging around that you have no use for? Pull out a can of spray paint plus primer, a glue gun and a dozen or so seasonal floral picks, and make a wreath for your front door. Here, we used a cheery red spray paint with some whimsical candy inspired floral picks for a pair of wreaths for Sherri's front doors. Wouldn't these be great to make for Halloween (bats and skeletons would be so fun!), 4th of July (sparklers and flags), summer (sunflowers and flipflops), and winter (white and silver sparkly). The possibilities are endless!

OPINIONS REQUESTED! We always say there’s not any one right choice for framing a piece- only the right choice for YOU. And to be honest, we rarely frame the same piece the same way twice! Reinvent the wheel. Every. Time. And maybe you don’t like any of these choices- and that’s ok too. There are a lot more directions we could have gone, but didn’t because they weren’t right for this stitcher. Plus IG only allows 10 pics, so we pared it down to post. Which one would you pick? ☺️

This was a fun finish we did for a local customer a few years ago. It’s “Darkwing Manor".
