Juneteenth marks a freedom that took more than two years to reach the people it belonged to.
That gap, between the day it became law and the day the news arrived in Galveston, is worth sitting with. Justice moves slowly. And the work that honors it doesn’t end when the commemorative post does.
Tag a Black-led organization whose work deserves more eyes this week and every week after.
Our founder, Kevin Bacon () has officially become Kevin Bean.
And honestly? It suits him…literally.
Every Wednesday, we’ve got a standing date with our friends at Humane World (): our meat becomes beans. : a tiny, impactful habit that’s better for the planet and somehow more fun when we’re doing it together.

We often treat hope like decoration: a warm color, a nice closing line, something we sprinkle on at the end.
But hope is the thing that actually makes someone act. Nobody gives, shows up, or shares because a problem feels huge and hopeless. People move because they believe what they do will matter.
So, giving people a reason to believe things can change? That is the strategy. It’s the most practical thing we can do.
Those of us who get this don’t ask people to care more. We try to give them somewhere to put the hope they already have.
SixDegrees.org's CEO Stacy Huston's countdown to 10 years continues with memory 5: our campaign during the early months of COVID.
Stacy recalls how SixDegrees sprang into action during the pandemic by making connection tangible at a time when disconnection was more prevalent than ever.
Hope is a powerful thing.

You know how every September you look up and realize the whole summer’s just…gone?
You rarely want to redo the big moments. It’s the seemingly small moments: the extra chair, the text you didn’t send, the plans that died in the group chat.
So here’s the to-do list before summer ‘26 gets away from us. It’s all the small moments you’ll be glad you lived when you look back in September.
