Did you know that chemical sunscreens are not good for hair extensions? Chemical sunscreens, specifically those containing avobenzone and octocrylene, turn hair extensions orange, pink, or brassy because these chemicals undergo an oxidation reaction with the materials and metallic impurities in processed, porous hair extensions. Natural hair is not affected because it lacks these porous, pre-lightened, or chemically treated structures that absorb and react to the sunscreen. It's always recommended to use a physical (mineral) sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide near your extensions. It's always best to put your hair extensions up in a bun or pony to keep them from touching these sunscreen chemicals.
