“I wish I dried up
I wish every drop of my milk slipped passed those pink lips and nourished the ground
Where the bones lay
Of my babies
Starved while I feed their murderer
I wish I dried up
So the missus babies would dry up too
And be brittle
So I could crumble them to dust
Return them to the ground
Where all children of my bosom lay equal"
- Hess Love

Imagine being forced to feed the children of the people who treat you as livestock. Imagine feeding a baby you know will be taught to treat you as livestock. And then imagine that happening at the expense of watching your own babies starve.

And after 400 years of this, the generational trauma surrounding breastfeeding (and so much more) is immense.

Why would perinatal providers highlight so much?

You cannot support families without understanding the past.

i LOVE my office. it’s so unique. i’m in two different worlds. upstairs is a rustic vibe and perfect for creating a calm therapeutic environment for massage therapy. i work on adults and babies upstairs. i’m also set up for lactation in the massage area with the comfy wing chair, changing station, and scale. i can brighten up the room when i open the curtains. downstairs is a bright farmhouse vibe with bay window looking out onto the brick terrace. that’s my primary lactation consulting space. i have a bathroom on both floors which is ahhhmazing. i still cannot believe i found such a perfect space for blending my two worlds of lactation consulting and massage therapy. i’m so thankful.

my spectra pump collection comes to the rescue yet again. mom pumping with her momcozy for three weeks, excruciating pain no matter the fl**ge size, poor milk output despite 30 minute painful pumping sessions, purple ni***es, lumpy b***s. i did not even touch that pump during our consultation. i moved mom to spectra and did a comprehensive fl**ge fitting. Taught therapeutic breast massage- relief. IMMEDIATE relief from moving to the Spectra. No pain. Found the right fl**ge. The most milk pumped EVER because we cleared out all the milk being left behind. I pulled a Spectra off my shelf. Created a same day amazon order for parts. Created a manageable pump plan to work on boosting supply. the pump session was a good output in comparison to momcozy but supply still needs to be boosted. supply boosts take time.

the babies were tough today (can you tell?) and now i’m home with my latest foster dog Emmy aka drama mama…. pushing her outta her comfort zone every day so she can live her best life.

Full day in the massage therapy treatment room providing CFT for infants. I don’t dress up the table. The baby stays clothed. sometimes we lay a blanket down. I have some toys for distraction and eye tracking. gloves for oral work my computer for notes. I also have a changing table and a scale and a comfy chair for breast-feeding. so I can also get weight checks measure feedings check latch.

when i need to make sure i don’t forget, it goes up on my chalk wall at home. engorgement when milk first comes in can’t wait! i need to talk through a plan and it will involve controlled milk removal with the pump to keep comfortable until things calm down. pumping output can be CONTROLLED. most focus on time… i focus on volume. focusing on time is what creates oversupply.

soooo I became IBCLC certified in 2009. home visits until 2015. when I was getting super busy i opened an office in west Chester from 2015-2018. back then groups were thriving and i had lots of group events…. postpartum group, moms meetup, exercise classes, tummytime method classes, infant massage classes, music classes! it was such a good time. so i had lots of toys for lots of classes. when i closed the west chester office in 2018 i boxed up a bunch of toys. since I’m ramping up my craniosacral fascial therapy (CFT) services with babies… i pulled out my old toy box to see if i can use anything in my cft sessions. the toy in this video is over 20 years old! i bought it for my kids who are now 26 and 23! and it’s still kicking! so if you have to bring your older child to a session they may get a kick outa this toy! something different.
