Before proceeding to wash throw rugs, it would be wise to examine the care instructions, particularly if the rugs are older or more fragile, in order to prevent damage to the washing machine, which could lead to expensive repair costs. The images below depict a front-load washer repair job, where a rug that had been left outside and had become frozen and damaged was put in the washer, resulting in the remnants, visible in the technician's hand, getting stuck between the tubs and causing drainage issues.

Make sure to run your dishwasher with a full load of dishes. This will help make the most of the energy, water and detergent the machine uses. Loading the dishwasher efficiently helps as well, placing larger items on the bottom rack and smaller items on the top rack. Avoid overcrowding to allow water to circulate effectively.

This customer experienced issues with their dryer, which would only operate if the start button was held down. The technician found that the motor contacts were bad and required cleaning. After completing the cleaning process, the unit functioned properly; however, it is possible that it may fail again and then the unit will require replacement of the motor.

WHAT TO DO OR DON’T DO: THAT IS THE QUESTION!

When using your oven’s self-cleaning function, DO keep children and pets away from the oven - it gets hot! DO turn on the vent hood fan or open windows for ventilation. DO make sure to wipe the oven window and remove any big chunks of food or grease inside the oven before cleaning to reduce smoking. DO self-clean only when you are home. DON’T leave any cookware or racks in the oven during the self-clean cycle. DON’T use commercial cleaners before or after using the self-clean function as it can lead to breakdown of the coating of the oven. DON’T touch the oven during the self-clean process - wait until it is completely cooled down. DON’T use the oven for at least 1 hour after the cleaning cycle is finished and oven has cooled.

***NOTE*** we do not recommend using the self-cleaning function especially in wall ovens. The very high temperature required in the cleaning process can compromise major components of your oven.
