Seven nations have hit a monumental milestone—Albania, Bhutan, Nepal, Paraguay, Iceland, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo now generate over 99.7% of their electricity from renewable sources like hydro, geothermal, wind, and solar. And it’s not just them—over 40 other countries now get more than half of their electricity from renewables. The UK, for example, reached 41.5% in 2022, up 10% from the year before. According to Stanford professor Mark Jacobson, we already have the tools needed. The shift is happening—not in the future, but right now.
