LAKOU, in simple terms, is Creole for "the yard"

This month, Lakou celebrates its continued partnership with CHAMPRO.
is a supplier of sporting goods and custom apparel worldwide. They produce garments in many areas around the world, including Haiti, where they operate a factory in the Codevi free trade zone near the Dominican Republic border.
CHAMPRO has been a supporter of Lakou since its earliest days -- not just through its financial generosity, but also in its continued enthusiasm and promotion of Lakou’s mission. CHAMPRO has a deep commitment to support athletic, educational, and mentoring programs both around the world and in their own backyard. They are headquartered in Bannockburn, Illinois. Most importantly, CHAMPRO supplies Lakou’s soccer jerseys!

📢 Exciting News from Lakou!
Applications for our next student cohort officially opened on May 1st, and the response has been overwhelming!
Under the leadership of Head of School Franckenson Desir, interest in Lakou's unique blend of classroom instruction and hands-on jobsite training has reached an all-time high. In fact, we have already received more interest than all previous years combined.
It's inspiring to see so many individuals eager to build skills, gain real-world experience, and create better opportunities for themselves and their communities.
Our next cohort will begin their journey this fall, and we can't wait to welcome the next generation of skilled professionals.

Today, first year participants in the Lakou NFP Construction Training Program completed their final exam in Block Laying and Mortar, marking an important milestone in their first year of training.
Throughout the year, these young people have been gaining hands-on experience and practical knowledge across various areas of construction. The Block Laying and Mortar class challenged them to develop precision, patience, teamwork, and attention to detail essential skills for any successful construction professional.
Today we celebrate their achievement. Tomorrow they continue their journey, gaining new skills and expanding their knowledge as they work toward becoming the next generation of construction professionals.
When we invest in young people, we don't just build workers—we build leaders, builders, and the future of Haiti.

Two men.
Two different stages of the journey.
One shared mission.
Siver compacting the foundation as a foreman at IGSA.
Maxo preparing the site , continuing his path after graduating from Lakou NFP.
This is bigger than construction.
It’s mentorship.
It’s opportunity.
It’s Haitians building Haiti.
Give someone a handout, it helps for a moment.
Teach a skill, create a job, and you change generations.

During Haitian Heritage Month, we celebrate more than history.
We celebrate the beauty of our land.
The richness of our communities.
The courage of our people.
And the connection we still have to each other no matter where we are in the world.
Haiti’s beauty is not artificial. It is raw, natural, and alive. From the green mountains overlooking the sea to the roads that connect villages and families, every part of this country carries a story.
This is the Haiti we want the world to see. đź‡đź‡ą
A Haiti full of life, depth, culture, and quiet beauty.
A Haiti worth loving. Worth protecting. Worth believing in.
