📣📣 EVANSTON AND SKOKIE LOCAL FRIENDS

The Evanston/Skokie Mutual Aid Network is a grassroots, community-led effort looking to take care of each other and keep our cities as safe as possible.

What is Mutual Aid?
Mutual aid projects recognize current systems as fundamentally unjust, and understand how our struggles are all connected through various forms of oppression. Mutual aid is about people coming together to support each other, especially when the systems we rely on can't meet everyone’s needs, and when our government is attacking our most vulnerable communities. Unlike charity or government services, mutual aid is a community-driven effort where we step in and take responsibility to help each other right now. It’s a way of caring for one another in a direct, hands-on manner, instead of waiting for politicians or big corporations to make change.
Mutual aid projects are typically powered by volunteers who are passionate about immediately making a difference and creating change. Instead of replicating the hierarchy and control of nonprofits, it’s a space where we build trust, share resources, and offer support. Knowing that we are stronger together we can create a society where everyone can survive and thrive. It requires not only challenging oppressive systems but building new ways of caring for each other, rooted in solidarity and mutual support.
While the group may not meet every need, it serves as a place where people can connect, share information, and lift each other up in a spirit of mutual care.
Recognize the dynamics and privilege you bring.
This space is founded by volunteers who are accountable to our marginalized and minoritized communities who are systematically denied access to food, secure housing, healthcare, safety, and the basic resources necessary for survival.
Our mission is to resist oppressive power structures through direct mutual aid—not to replicate or reinforce these systems, nor to entertain white-saviorism. Don’t dominate conversations. Elevate and amplify the posts and projects already led by those on the frontlines of change.

Just a little pat on the back 👏🏼👏🏼 When the Green Party's vice president nominee, Dr. Butch Ware made my comment a whole post. Still holding space for those that are raised in a culture of Black Excellence as a means of survival. Election season is already rough, but this election season our Blackness is being weaponized to a higher degree than past elections.

Representataion. Representataion. Representataion. She's a whole mood! This is a big nod to the Black trail ride and cowboy culture we created and always get left out of.

Find her and our other vintage inspired prints at our pop-ups!!
