As the county deliberates on the Climate Action Plan, it's important to realize that most greenhouse gas emissions come from commuting (see pie chart from the RCAP). We need better strategies to reduce commuting than getting every to drive EVs! Like what...?

Seems like the best way to meet carbon-emission goals is to cut back the use of energy. We don't need to mandate electric vehicles if we just drive less in the first place. No more residential growth would also help immensely. More people, more energy. Right?

"California’s renewable energy goals — 25 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2045, enough to achieve net zero carbon emissions — almost certainly cannot be met without offshore wind development, including the farm slated for off the coast of Humboldt County." Wow, looks like AI data centers are energy hogs. Like crypto-mining. Another high-tech nightmare!
AI supercharges data center energy use – straining the grid and slowing sustainability efforts AI is everywhere these days, which means more data centers eating up more electricity. There’s no easy fix, but some combination of efficiency, flexibility and new technologies could ease the burden.
