An Ice Out protest escalated into a chaotic scene as demonstrators attempted to flee flash bangs and tear gas Monday, Jan. 27, outside the federal building at Seventh Avenue and Pearl Street in Eugene. Despite repeatedly shouting “Press! I’m press,” Torch staff member Agostinho Da Silva was struck by pepper balls six times fired by members of the Department of Homeland Security.

Students push back on SGA letter about union signage.
Dozens of LCC students say a recent Student Government Association letter calling for the removal of faculty union signs does not reflect the wider student body. A student response letter with 38 signatures was submitted to the Board of Education and read at its Nov. 5 meeting.

Preliminary results from the May 20 election are now available.
These early numbers reflect the current vote counts for the Lane Community College Board of Education as of 8 p.m. on Election Day. Keep in mind that these results are not final — ballots are still being counted, and official results will be certified in the coming days.
The Torch will continue to follow the race and share updates as more information becomes available. For now, here’s where things stand.
