We’re growing Persicaria tinctoria, otherwise known as Japanese Indigo. It was something of an inevitability it would come to this with my love of indigo.

And now the first of perhaps two or three harvests is dried and will be stored until I’m ready to use it.

Light and form and shape and volume and texture and structure and lines and vector and improvisation and depth and contour and synthesis and tone and limitation and elevation.

I quickly made this photo this morning of the Stone Rambler boots we make at . Swipe right to see the setup, and proof of my frugality and scrappiness. This was shot with my 5DmkII from 2008, using only natural light.

We made it out into the forest for the first time in a few moons, this past weekend. We are well acquainted with all the nearby outdoor recreation areas, so it wasn’t challenging to find somewhere isolated and unpeopled.

The creek was cold as all getup, and after we were done I took this photo of my boots just lounging on some rocks.

I think I’m going to, with much assistance from .minyo, going to start sharing more photos of me, so that’s something to look forward to.

I started building this font a month or two ago, based on an old newspaper headline. It does what I want it to do, and adds to my small arsenal of type I’ve made myself.

I actually am not living in solitude, but still pushing boots out into the world, and then bicycling the two miles home to my continuously restless children and relentlessly tough wife, .minyo.

To (her and) all the parents (especially of young children) out there, you can do it.

I am very curious to see what works are being manifested right now, music, writing, illustration, as the paradigm shifts.

Holy s**t. These boots are built from shrunken American bison leather. The texture is incomparable. I love working with leather, and especially all of this extremely high quality leather we use at .

I’ve been wearing these boots for the past three months every single day. Talk about aging with beauty. I’m thoroughly enjoying being surrounded by and immersed in the world of boot craft.
