Team Cascade Health was feeling the '80s vibe at yesterday's My Breast Friends 5k. Not only were we proud to help raise funds for local cancer patients and survivors, but we also had a whole lot of neon, hairsprayed, legwarmer'd fun doing it! Congrats to the Oregon Cancer Foundation on a truly amazing event.

Did you know Cascade Health’s own Andréa Leiserowitz helped launch National Cancer Rehabilitation Month?

Andréa, a board-certified oncological physical therapist, was part of the APTA Oncology team behind the month’s first observance in 2025. Their goal: to help more people understand how physical therapy and other rehabilitation services can ease side effects of cancer and cancer treatment - including pain, swelling, lymphedema, neuropathy, fatigue, and mobility changes.

“Patients routinely say, ‘Why didn’t I know about this earlier?’” says Andréa. And that's precisely the mission of Cancer Rehab Month - to change "why didn't I know" to "I'm so glad I knew."

Thank you to Hearts for Hospice for showing us around their incredible new space last week! If you haven't checked out the warehouse at 4660 Main Street yet, you're missing out on treasures - you can see our team had a blast discovering goodies like a vintage '90s LiteBrite.

Most of all, though, the tour was a chance for gratitude: Thanks to a Hearts for Hospice grant, each of the patient rooms at Pete Moore Hospice House now has a beautiful new easy-to-clean loveseat to keep family members comfortable. We can't say thank you enough for the support and partnership.

Cancer treatment can affect the whole person – strength, mobility, swallowing, nutrition, energy, mental health, and so much more.
That’s why cancer rehab often takes a team.

During National Cancer Rehabilitation Month, we’re recognizing the range of professionals who support people during and after cancer treatment, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nutritionists, mental health professionals and other care partners. Together, they help patients and survivors rebuild strength, adapt to changes, manage symptoms and return to the parts of life that matter most. You can find many of those folks right here at Cascade Health, including oncological physical therapist Andréa Leiserowitz, DPT, CLT, who played a key role launching the first-ever National Cancer Rehab Month in 2025.

If you’re a cancer patient or survivor looking to find out more about how tackling issues like pain, swelling, lymphedema, chemo-induced neuropathy, fatigue, and a limited range of motion can make a huge difference in your quality of life, find out more at https://www.cascadehealth.org/physical-therapy/cancer.

👉Buttoning a shirt. Opening a jar. Lifting a child. Texting a friend. Our hands do so much - tasks we don't even notice until something gets in the way. National Hand Therapy Week is a chance to give a shoutout to the specialists who help so many hands, wrists, elbows and fingers heal from injury, surgery, arthritis, or other conditions.

🙌Cascade Health's hand therapists bring skill, patience, and problem-solving to each patient’s recovery. They help people regain movement, build strength, manage pain, and return to the daily tasks that matter most to them. You might even say they put patients' lives back in their own hands.

👏Join us in putting our hands together for a round of applause for this incredible team.
