NextStep was so excited to welcome Associate Professor, Derek Hindery, from the Department of Global Studies at the University of Oregon today! He, along with his undergraduate and graduate students, joined us for a tour of NextStep's Donation, Recycling & Job Skills Training Departments.
They got to see first hand that NextStep is about so much more than recycling. From technology access to workforce development and community impact, we are proud to create programs that support people who are too often overlooked.
THANK YOU, Derek and class, for taking the time to learn, connect, and support our mission. Conversations like these remind us why this work matters so much.

Peter Andersen is NextStep's Battery Super Hero!
Lorraine McKenzie, NextStep Recycling's Founder, received a tour of the work Peter and Jessica Ahrenholtz, NextStep's Executive Director, have been working hard on streamlining.
Peter will be celebrating 17 years at NextStep this fall! He has gone above and beyond on organizing, labeling, sorting and properly packaging the batteries that would otherwise be very difficult to recycle.
NextStep appreciates you and all your hard work Peter!

Happy Earth Day from NextStep Recycling - it's Earth Day, everyday!!!
04/20/2026
The 2nd Annual Re-Imagine Earth Day event at the Eugene Farmers Market Pavilion this past Sunday was pure magic!
NextStep Recycling was proud to be there, represented by Executive Director Jessica Ahrenholtz —connecting with an incredible crowd, answering thoughtful questions, and standing alongside so many inspiring nonprofits.
NextStep partners with so many wonderful nonprofits, including Lane County Waste Management and Waste Wise Lane County, most recently for the 2026 Electronics Recycling Competition.
NextStep also loves our partnership with the University of Oregon's Office of Sustainability at the joint UO/NextStep Surplus Store, located at 547 Q Street in Springfield.
It was a beautiful reminder that when we come together, we amplify, impact and move our missions forward—together.
Thank you for having us, Eugene. We’re already looking forward to next year. 🌎💚
